Job Opening – Shift Brewer

Job Description

Assist in all aspects of the brewing process from ingredient procurement, recipe development, brewing and generally helping to keep production operating smoothly day to day.

Job Responsibilities

• 1-week immersion with Operations, Regulatory and Sales teams
• 1-week immersion with Marketing, Events and Taproom teams
• Operation of mill, brewhouse, cellar and all associated equipment
• Regular maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency repairs, CIP, set-up and tear-down of all brewhouse systems
• Report daily progress, challenges and concerns to Head Brewer
• Assist in preparation and execution of weekly brewing/cellaring schedule
• Become proficient in basic operations of keg washer, packaging lines, and centrifuge
• Maintain clear direction and professionalism in the face of challenges and adversity
• Set an example of work efficiencies and upholding proper protocol
• Work with QA/QC department to maintain brewing and packaging standards
• Maintain inventory and order all raw materials associated with brewing
• Engage in active prioritization and daily task management of brewing, cellaring, and packaging personnel

Candidate Qualifications

• Absolute (don’t apply without these)

o 100+ batches brewed (homebrew or production)
o Flexible schedule, ability to work nights and weekends on a regular basis
o Ability to stand, crawl, pull, twist, jump for prolonged periods
o Strong knowledge of brewing science and techniques
o Self-motivated, self-starter with ability to excel in instances of limited direction
o Excellent interpersonal, communications, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
o Dedicated sense of urgency and drive to achieve objectives
o Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with varying levels of importance and difficulty
o Computer and software competency, proficiency in Excel
o Mechanical intuition
o Familiarity with sanitary processes
o Display knowledge of mechanical equipment and ability to troubleshoot on the fly
o Ability to lift 50lbs shoulder high and 100lbs waist high
o Ability to climb stairs and ladders
o Ability to work on your feet for an entire shift
o Competence with all forms of safety protocol
o Detail oriented and diligent record keeper
o Have extreme detail for cleanliness
o Ability to work in a production brewery which may be loud, hot, humid, cold, slippery
o Desire to work hard, play hard and get things done

• Preferred

o Experience working for a production brewery
o Formal brewing education (UC Davis, ABG, Siebel, etc.)
o Forklift experience
o CIP experience
o Familiarity with techniques used in a brewery lab
